Set up iOS Shortcuts to automatically create transactions from your SMS messages. When you receive bank notifications, they'll be processed and added to your budget automatically!

Create Shortcut

Open the Shortcuts app on your iPhone
Create a new shortcut by tapping "+"

Configure Shortcut Input

Add "Get Text from Input" action
Select "Shortcut Input" as the source
Tap "Receive" → Set to "Text and Rich Text"
Enable "Show in Share Sheet"
Set "If There's No Input" to "Continue"

Add Processing Actions

Add "URL Encode" action to encode the text
Link it to the text from Step 2
Add "Open URL" action with URL: budgetit4u://queue?text=[Encoded Text]
budgetit4u://queue?text=[Encoded Text]

IMPORTANT: Make sure [Encoded Text] is linked to the URL Encode output

Test Your Shortcut

Run the shortcut - it should open this app if working correctly

Setup SMS Automation

Go to Shortcuts app → Automation tab
Create New Automation → Personal → Message
Configure trigger:
Sender: Select your bank OR
Message Contains: "Debit Card ending XXXX" (or transaction keywords)
Select "Run Immediately" → Next
Choose the shortcut you created (name it "BudgetIt4U" for easy finding)
Save automation

Final Setup

In BudgetIt4U app → Settings → Enable "SMS Automation"
Optional: Enable "Auto-add Transactions" for automatic transaction creation
(Transactions matching stored keywords will be auto-created and flagged as automated)
🎉Setup Complete! Your SMS transactions will now be processed automatically.
